Because there are so many different scenarios for electrons transfer, we focused on only a few in the lab:

• metal displacement

• hydrogen displacement

• halogen displacement

• non-trivial redox

Actually that last category is made-up. It signifies reactions which are typically pretty complex and which cannot be balanced by simple inspection as we do with all other types of reactions.
