It might be tempting to think that all SLOW steps are the first steps in mechanisms. This is not the case. There are many other possible scenarios for multistep mechanisms--but we won't discuss any of them in this course. And because proposing mechanisms for real reactions requires a lot of experience and background knowledge you will not be asked to do it. You should be able to do the sorts of things we have done here.
